Constructing Solar PV

Audience member: I was going to ask questions about contrasting Solar PV and concentrating in particular whether you had a feel of fixed panel, one axis, two axis, and as you get into these utility-scale projects how the arithmetic might pencil out and where you think concentrating . . . does it have a sustainable long-term price advantage?

Speaker: I’m inclined to think so, but I never really done that comparison. I do believe that single axis tracking Solar PV is probably going to give about as much power as…if there’s anybody that does CPV don’t kill me. I did some work recently, working with CPV company. It looks to me like single axis tracking Solar PV, because it can make use of the diffuse component as well, the concentrators cannot, that the cost of electricity from it is probably likely to be lower than from a CPV project just based on the balance of plant costs.
